Media Arts and Design
New Space for Thinking

Established since 2003 by academic initiation of Uthit Atimana, Media Arts and Design, The Graduate School, Chiang May University, was formed to promote interdisciplinary study of media theory

The philosophical foundation since the very beginning years of the MADs was constructed by theoretical collaboration from the following departments: Fine Arts, Mass Communication, Architecture and Engineering.

Emphasizing on the theorisation of media in certain topic engaging in art, design, technology, and media culture, Media Arts and Design proposes a training program for graduate students to become media scholars and practitioners, whose creativity invents unique languages of aesthetic expression in critical communication methods. By theorising disciplines from multiple areas of study and knowledge from both local and international levels, media students are expected to gain capacity of understanding contemporary everyday life of people, and also of society at large. They realise an importance of the analytical ideas, which is a catalyst for new bodies of knowledge, where as their social consciousness is gradually fabricated to reach social needs critically, artistically, and economically. Under an affluent learning atmosphere emphasising on student centred learning process provided by The Media Arts and Design, the course works are designed to coach media students to accomplish their careers by practices.
